Inauguration

I figured it was important to have a hobby, whether that involved model cars, watching baseball, or keeping a blog. The question was, something that I still have not answered, is what to write about. The internet makes it possible for anyone to post thoughts on anything. There are blogs on war, politics, music, sports, or whatever unique fetish people find time to post on.

It might be productive to write about what I know, but I realized I know very little, nothing to constitute a daily (weekly? monthly? one time?) blog. Posting takes time: thinking, editing, font selection, caps on/off and it would be a waste of my time to write about meaningless stuff.

Most successful, informative, eye-catching blogs focus on a single topic, something broad enough to fill the post. Juan Cole's blog Informed Comment is a great source for news from the Middle East (mostly from Iraq) and also gives a knowledge opinion about the relevance/causality of these events. Juan is a professor of religion and middle eastern studies at UMich and given the title of his blog, his years of schooling, and access to Arab satellite television, he is, to steal words, a very informed commentator on stuff that occurs in Mesopotamia.

My older brother also has a blog on the Phillies, which I read when I remember he has a blog. I always imagined him as a writer.
This is a start. I'll write about what I know best: the things I like, whether that be music, sports, books, art, or life in general.
